The MexicanMolinillo is handmade. It is used in Mexican cuisine to froth cacao and give it a smooth and creamy appearance. It has been described that in the past it was customary to create the foam of hot cacao by emptying the contents of one container to another repeatedly, until around 1700, the Spaniards who lived in New Spain invented the molinillo.

One of the most essential parts of the ritual cacao drink for Mesoamerican cultures was the froth on top.
The ancient Zapotecs believed that the life force of the Wind God Pee, was present in everything, even in the lively froth of the cacao.
Some traditions still claim that the cacao is for the body and the froth is for the soul' - Dreis and Greenhill (2008)


To use the molinillo, hold it between your hands and rub it back and forth several times, making the cocoa all frothy.
