THE ORIGINS OF CACAO
For thousands of years, in Mesoamerica, what is today the countries of Central America and Mexico, pure cacao was used as a medicinal plant and was an integral part of all rituals and religious ceremonies.
Cacao, literally translated as "blood of the heart" in Maya and considered as the "Food of the Gods", is used by the indigenous tribes of Central and South America in shamanic ceremonies, both sacred and therapeutic.
Its objective is to open one's heart, to explore one's inner being and to integrate with the great Whole of the Universe.
In this context, cacao was considered a sacred plant according to the "Popol Vuh", the sacred book of the ancient Maya, linking the human and spiritual realms.
For more than a decade, holistic and spiritual practitioners have been rediscovering the medicinal and ceremonial use of cacao, and although modern "cacao ceremonies" vary considerably in their purpose, the consumption of cacao in its purest form is at the heart of them.
