The TUQ'TUQUILAL Criollo & Fino De Aroma is grown in the mountainous region of Alta Verapaz in Guatemala . Our Red Ratzum cacao grows near the famous Semuc Champey waterfalls .

United around this project in favor of agroecology and soil revalorization , 55 families each take care of a plot of about one hectare composed of 1/3 Criollo and Fino De Aroma.

One origin, two recipes...

    Bean To Bar by MOOJO

It's an honor to be able to process Tuq'Tuquilal beans and offer you a 1-ingredient, hand-peeled recipe with no added cacao butter.

      The roasting process is gentler
than the wood-fired one traditionally used by Tuq'Tuquilal. Our beans are low-temperature roasted at 103° for less than an hour. They are then ground into 100% chocolate chips.

Tree To Bar by Tuq'Tuquilal (Traditional Recipe)

Éeveloped by TUQ'TUQUILAL from delicious cacao beans and entirely transformed locally, according to ancestral techniques of roasting on wood fire and peeling by hand. This medicine wheel is offered in 500gr or 1kg.

          CRIOLLO, FORESTERO,
          TRINITARIO OF RED RATZUM

Red Ratzum is grown in the mountainous region of Alta Verapaz, near the famous Semuc Champey waterfalls in Guatemala.

55 families are currently part of this agroecology and soil reclamation project. The cultivated plots average one hectare per family.

Criollo cacao is a type of cacao that the families cultivate on a smaller scale, about 36% of the plots are covered with Criollo, but of the total number of cacao trees that the productive plots have, less than 50% are Criollo.

An alternation of Forastero & Trinitario cacao trees completes the picture well

           LANQUIN - ALTO VERAPAZ

Lanquín is a small and peaceful village surrounded by hills.
It is located at the gateway to the famous Semuc Champey Natural Park in central Guatemala.

Lanquin is also home to a beautiful project called Tuq'tuquilal. It is both an eco-center, a community post-harvest space, a place for soil reclamation and agro-ecology, but above all a wonderful human adventure.

This cooperative of more than 55 families shares a common vision focused on permaculture and the transmission
of agricultural, cultural & ancestral knowledge.

An initiative that we support since 2018 by buying beans at a price 2 times higher than the local "farmgate" as well as through the sale of their own ceremonial cacao production.

          TUQ'TUQUILAL

Tuq tu'quilal captures and stores the cultural knowledge of local Mayan traditions, which are rapidly eroding, it is a physical place where they can be propagated and reseeded.

Tuq tu'quilal is inspired by Gandhi's concept of the "village technology center"-a model for a localized self-reliance strategy, integrating the traditional and the modern.

It is a demonstration of alternative paths to development rather than a meaningless race for profit.
